  1. A friend of mine sent me an article from the AZ paper telling your story. I have a similar story. I was a 77 yr old veteran whose kidneys were destroyed by a prescribed arthritis medicine (Naproxen). I went of the kidney transplant list at Emory Univ. in Atlanta and after a year, decided I needed to become proactive in finding a donor. I did not want to go on dialysis (I was at 19% function) and I was concerned about the effects of oncoming Obamacare. I was in extremely good health with a 3X week exercise program at Golds Gym for the past 10 years and with no other health problems. I printed and distributed hundreds of flyers, was interviewed by FOX TV in Atlanta twice and had my story in the local paper. Results: many people stepped forward however the final candidate was a complete stranger. She was a 33 yr old woman who had never smoked, done drugs or drank (a dream donor). After extensive testing she was approved and the kidney swap was done in Nov. ’13. Results have been amazing and we are now close friends. Motto: be proactive and aggressively search for a donor.

    • Larry that’s crazy! My recipient’s kidneys failed because of Ibuprofen! She also avoided dialysis with a strict diet for ten years. I’m so glad you found a kidney!
